Tis the season for cranberries! These beautiful berries are low in calories, an excellent source of Vitamin C and fiber, and a good source of manganese and copper. Their deep red pigment means they are loaded with antioxidants. Antioxidants equal anti-inflammatory effects. Lowering inflammation can reduce your risk of certain chronic diseases.

Unlike blueberries and strawberries, cranberries are a little tougher to include dietarily due to their tart taste. Of course, it is best to find recipes that are not loaded with sugar. 

You might throw a handful of cranberries in your morning smoothie. Adding other fruits will help sweeten it up. You can easily sweeten a traditional cranberry sauce recipe with OJ and maple syrup instead of table sugar. Also consider dried cranberries for baking, salads, oatmeal, yogurt, or trail mix. Look at the ingredient list and get the ones sweetened with juice instead of table sugar. Keep dried fruit servings to no more than 1/4 cup.
