Am I a candidate for weight loss surgery?

Transoral Outlet Reduction Endoscopy (TORe)

Dr. Donald Fridley Certified to Perform TORe

We have exciting news at SABP!  Dr. Donald Fridley is now certified by Boston Scientific to perform the Transoral Outlet Reduction Endoscopy (TORe) – a cutting-edge, minimally invasive procedure that helps gastric bypass patients who have regained weight get back on track.

Renew Your Weight Loss After Gastric Bypass Without Another Abdominal Surgery

If you have experienced weight regain after Roux-en-Y gastric bypass, changes in the size of your gastric outlet may be contributing to increased hunger, larger portions, or reduced feelings of fullness.

Transoral Outlet Reduction (TORe) is a minimally invasive, incision-free endoscopic procedure that reduces the size of an enlarged gastric outlet. By restoring restriction, TORe can help you feel full sooner, eat smaller portions, and support renewed weight loss.

Our facility is one of the few Centers of Excellence in Bariatric Surgery in the region.

How Does TORe Work?

During gastric bypass surgery, a small stomach pouch is created and connected to the small intestine through an opening called the gastric outlet. Over time, this opening can become enlarged, allowing food to pass through more quickly and reducing the feeling of fullness.

TORe is performed using a flexible endoscope passed through the mouth into the stomach. Dr. Donald Fridley uses advanced endoscopic suturing to reduce the size of the gastric outlet—without abdominal incisions.

Who May Be a Candidate for TORe?

TORe may be considered for patients who:

  • Previously underwent Roux-en-Y gastric bypass
  • Have experienced significant weight regain or inadequate weight loss
  • Have an enlarged gastric outlet following gastric bypass
  • Notice they can eat larger portions than they could previously
  • Experience decreased or short-lived feelings of fullness
  • Have symptoms of dumping syndrome that may be related to an enlarged outlet
  • Want to explore an endoscopic alternative to traditional revisional surgery

An evaluation with Dr. Fridley can determine whether anatomical changes are contributing to your weight regain and whether TORe is appropriate for you.

The Benefits of TORe and is TORe Right for You?

TORe offers several potential benefits for appropriately selected patients, including no abdominal incisions, outpatient treatment, restored restriction, increased fullness with smaller portions, and a shorter recovery than traditional revisional surgery.

Weight regain after gastric bypass doesn’t necessarily mean you need another surgery. For some patients, TORe provides a minimally invasive way to address anatomical changes and regain an important part of the restriction created by their original procedure.

Dr. Donald Fridley offers advanced bariatric and endoscopic treatment options for patients throughout Tampa Bay, Hudson, Lutz, and surrounding communities. Schedule a consultation to find out if TORe is right for you.
