We have exciting news at SABP! Dr. Donald Fridley is now certified by Boston Scientific to perform the Transoral Outlet Reduction Endoscopy (TORe) – a cutting-edge, minimally invasive procedure that helps gastric bypass patients who have regained weight get back on track.
What is TORe?
Transoral Outlet Reduction Endoscopy (TORe) is a non-surgical endoscopic weight loss procedure for patients who previously had Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB). Over time, the stomach pouch or stoma (the opening between stomach and small intestine) can stretch, reducing fullness cues and causing weight regain or dumping syndrome.
TORe restores the anatomy by shrinking the stoma and sometimes the pouch, helping patients feel full sooner and support renewed weight loss.
How the TORe Procedure Works
Performed with an endoscope—no external incisions
Flexible tube with a camera and suturing tools inserted through the mouth under anesthesia
Specialized sutures tighten the stoma (and sometimes the pouch)
Typically under an hour, with same-day discharge
Benefits of TORe
Minimally invasive (no cutting or stapling)
Lower risk and quicker recovery than revision surgery
Can produce 10–20% total body weight loss
Improves obesity-related conditions and dumping syndrome
Can be repeated if necessary
Often covered by insurance
Risks & Considerations
Possible risks: bleeding, infection, or perforation (rare)
Not suitable for everyone—requires evaluation by a bariatric specialist
Works best when combined with a structured aftercare plan (nutrition counseling, lifestyle changes, and support groups)
Expected Results After TORe
Patients typically lose 10–20% of body weight after TORe, with best results achieved when following a comprehensive bariatric aftercare plan.
Our facility is one of the few Centers of Excellence in Bariatric Surgery in the region.
